Choose
the right toothing Many of the hacksaw blades are truly universal and are suitable for most materials, sizes and duties. But there are exceptions, and it is therefore important to know what determines the choice of blade for work on copper or aluminium, for instance. As a general rule, the softer and/or the heavier the workpiece to be cut, the coarser should be the tooth pitch of the blade. Conversely, the harder and thinner the material, the finer the tooth pitch that is needed. At least three teeth should be cutting at all times during sawing. The choice lies between hacksaw blades with 18, 24 and 32 teeth per inch. Heavy workpieces of aluminium or copper, for instance, need 18 teeth. Thin workpieces of stainless steel need 32 teeth. For most other materials and duties, 24 teeth per inch are needed, which is also the most common tooth pitch. |
